Blood Pressure Readings Explained
Normal blood pressure readings?
I’m writing a story and there’s a scene where a young girl’s blood pressure (and other medical issues) are being monitored. I don’t understand the whole “# over #” thing though, so could someone please explain it to me so I know what to write? Thanks!
Blood pressure (BP) is the pressure exerted by circulating blood upon the walls of blood vessels, and is one of the principal vital signs. When used without further specification, “blood pressure” usually refers to the arterial pressure of the systemic circulation. During each heartbeat, BP varies between a maximum (systolic) and a minimum (diastolic) pressure.
the upper number is the maximum(systolic) pressure and the lower number is the minimum(diastolic) pressure.
for e.g.if ur bp is 120/80 mm of mercury, 120 denotes ur systolic pressure and 80 denotes diastolic pressure.
normal bp is in the range of 90-119 of SYSTOLIC PRESSURE and 60-79 OF DIASTOLIC PRESSURE.
i.e.90-119/60-79 MM OF MERCURY.
